Students and alumni can request official and unofficial transcripts in person at the Student Services Center or by mail. On campus, visit the Student Services Center and fill out a "Transcript Request Form." Alumni may mail a written request, including the following information and any applicable charges (see below):
- Your name (and any other name you used as a student)
- Your Social Security Number
- Your dates of attendance and, if applicable, graduation date
- A phone number and address where we can reach you
- The number of transcripts you need and the address where each one should be sent
- Your signature (very important!)
An official copy of your transcript is one that you have requested to be sent directly to someone other than yourself: an employer, another college or university, etc. Some graduate school admissions offices may ask you to collect your official transcripts and send them together with other application materials. For those requests, the official transcript is sealed in an envelope, and the seal is stamped with the words "Official Transcript. Not Official If Seal Is Broken."
An unofficial copy of your transcript is one that you have requested to be sent to yourself. It will be stamped "Issued To Student." Most employers, colleges and universities will not accept unofficial transcripts.

On campus, you can request both official and unoffical transcripts from either of the Student Services Centers: Academic Campus, 104 Founders Hall; MCV Campus, 1-055 Sanger Hall. You can print unofficial copies of your transcripts from the VCU web site. Go to www.vcu.edu. Click on Current Students, then click on e-Services (Student Records Access). Log in and choose the option "academic record".
Generally speaking, it takes about three weeks after a semester ends for grades to be posted to your transcript and about five weeks after a semester ends for a degree to be posted. If you want a requested transcript to include grades for the current semester or a new degree that is not yet posted, be sure to note clearly that you want the transcript office to wait for the upcoming posting.
From the time your request is received, it usually takes five business days to put your transcript(s) in the mail. During busier periods (around the beginning and ending of semesters) it may take up to 10 business days. We cannot fax transcripts.
Official transcripts: The first three official transcripts will be provided at no cost; thereafter, the charge is $5 per transcript. The fee is payable by check or money order. Cash is not accepted.Unofficial transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are available online at no charge. Go to http://www.vcu.edu. Click on Current Students, then click on e-Services (Student Records Access). Log in and choose the option "academic record". They are also available from the Student Services Centers in Founders Hall and Sanger Hall at no charge.
