Mission Statement

To provide a leadership experience through curricular and co-curricular programs to develop young leaders. The program will provide each new leader with a mentor. Mentors will continue to develop their leadership skills through peer mentoring and advising.

Vision Statement

VCU’s Emerging Leaders Program influences the lives of  young student leaders within the university through a competitive mentoring program so that they may be enlightened, engaged, and supported as a leader both at the university level and beyond.

History and Purpose of Program

First, the program offers incentive scholarships for matriculating students as a means of recruiting students with leadership potential. Second, the first year leadership training and personal development program, as well as ongoing scholarships and mentorships in the second year, provide a strong basis for retention of these students from freshman to sophomore year and further.
