The Pathways Program at VCU

The Pathways Program is a two-part intervention for VCU students. Most students are referred to Pathways by the Office of Student Conduct for a violation of the VCU Alcohol and Drug  policy.

  • Part One is the BASICs on-line survey. Participants will receive an e-mail after registering for class  that links them to the BASICs survey.  The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. This survey must be completed and brought to class.
  • Part Two is a three-hour class that is limited to 12 participants. Classes are held Fridays from 1 -  4 p.m. in the University Counseling Center (room 238 of The Commons).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for Pathways?

After reading the FAQs scroll to the bottom of the page, read and click I Agree.

How much does Pathways cost?

The Pathways Program is offered to VCU students at no cost.

How do I quickly and successfully complete Pathways?

Register as soon as you know you need to complete Pathways. Write down your class in your planner or put it in your phone. Check your e-mail regularly as you will receive a confirmation of your registration and a reminder e-mail for your class. Arrive for class a few minutes early. Students who arrive more than 5 minutes late will not be allowed to enter! Complete the BASICs survey as soon as you receive it. You must complete the survey and bring it with you to class.

Will I get a certificate of completion?

Yes.

How do I get the hold off of my account?

All concerns and questions regarding account holds need to be taken to the Office of Student Conduct.

I missed my Pathways class, what should I do?

Repeated registrations are not allowed for Pathways. If you did not show for class you will need to discuss alternatives with your referring agency.

How do I change a class registration?

If you have a legitimate reason to reschedule your class (such as a documented illness or conflict) you may re-register on-line.

I would like to take a class that is already full, is that possible?

Because Pathways participants must complete and bring with them the BASICs survey, stand-by registration for class is not an option.

By registering for Pathways I affirm and understand the information on the Pathways webpage, including the FAQs. I understand I will not be able to register a second time and thus unable to complete Pathways should I arrive late or not show for class.
